There is a hot debate in our time about the truth or the falseness of the statement: “There IS grape juice in the Bible.” It is necessary to re-examine our approach to Scripture and endeavor to determine exactly what God means in speaking of “wine” because He frequently speaks about the fruit of the vine. We are interested in the truth of the matter. God’s Word says: “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he” (Deut. 32:4). David says, “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day” (Ps 25:5). Biblical truth is absolute, never relative; objective, never subjective; and corresponds to reality.

God’s truth has been given us, and we have the responsibility to interpret and understand it correctly. This means to compare Scripture with Scripture because God often interprets it for us. This also means to respect all of its contexts: grammatical, historical, theological, and Christological. When we do this, we can answer the question affirmatively: “Yes, there is grape juice in the Bible!”
